Ask a Question

Naturalizer asked: Why did you choose this?

Linda asked: How flexible are these shoes? I need a shoe that isn't too flexible -- can't be bent too easily in half. I have foot problems and if a shoe is too flexible, I wind up in terrible pain! Do these shoes have decent arch support?

  • Lisa: "This would likely be too flexible for the support you need. They have very soft leather sides and feel like slippers."
  • Keiko: "It's flexible but not too flexible so I can't bend in half. The arch support is not remarkable, almost flat."
  • Diana: "Hi Linda I don't think these shoes are for you. I like them because they are so supple, soft and like slippers. Arch support is about the same as in any flat shoe other than an orthopedic one. Diana"
  • S: "Hi Linda, I love these shoes. They don't bend easily in half and they are very comfortable. The inner soles are very cushy and comfortable. The arch area is not very prominent like you would see in a running shoe. Oftentimes when I buy shoes, I have to wear them a few times before my feet don't hurt. Not with these shoes! The leather is very nice and soft too. I don't have any foot problems so I hope this has been helpful to you."
  • Judith: "Linda - I have no special expertise in this area--just a very satisfied customer for these shoes. I inadvertently went online TWICE and bought the same shoe in two colors--the Sophie in both red and tan--before realizing I had done this. I didn't return either one and have been glad to have both even though I have a very limited income. I've been very happy with both pairs and am wearing the tan ones as I write. I never thought much about flexibility, but have arch support problems myself and find the shoes fit well. I think you'll like them."
  • J: "I found Sophie to be very soft. I would not say the arch support is very firm. My problem was the shoe runs wide and long. I have narrow feet and 9N was way too wide for me. I had to return the shoes."
  • R: "I have several pair of Naturalizer loafer style shoes, and I would say that the arch in this shoe is comparable. The arch is certainly not as high as what you have with an orthodic insert, but better than other brands of loafers that are pretty much flat inside. As far as flexibility, I have the shoe in black and if the leather is the same in red, the leather is pretty hard and holds its shape, as opposed to the very soft, bendable leather of some shoes. But the sole is rubber, so that in itself makes it more flexible than a shoe with a hard bottom."
  • W: "Pretty shoes but too flexiable. No support. and after about three wears they started flopping off my feet.."
  • A: "Yes. This shoe is very comfortable but still provides adequate arch support."
  • Ellen: "These shoes have decent arch support and are very comfortable! Not too flexible, although from the style they might look it. I liked these shoes (in red) so much that I bought another pair in dark brown. I have not had any problems with them at all. I did buy a half size smaller, however, as they seem to run a bit big. Hope this helps!"

Nancy asked: I just purchased a pair of Naturalizer Hanover flats...does anyone know how this shoe (Sophie) compares to the Hanover in terms of sizing/fit? The Hanover fits me perfectly and I would like to duplicate that sizing in a different Naturalizer shoe.

  • Dianne: "Tight as in side to side"
  • Bonnie: "Answer, I did purchase Sophia flats. I do like them and my normal size is perfect. I have not bought Hanover style so I can not compare the size."
  • Dianne: "I purchased the Sophie, but returned the, Size felt rather tight. Not as much comfort as I would like to have."
  • Ellen: "I would say it is very similar in sizing. I normally buy a 9 or 9-1/2 narrow shoe, but for Sophie I ended up with an 8-1/2. I even put an extra Insole in it to have it fit a little snugger. I just purchased 2 pairs of Hanover and did the same thing: 8-1/2 N with an insole in them. They were very much alike for me in sizing. Hope this helps!"
  • janelle: "I found this shoe true to size."
